Restaurant Holiday Hours: Plan Special Dates and Full-Day Closures

OmNom restaurant resources

A shorter holiday service, a full-day closure, and the first day back each need a clear plan. Set exact-date exceptions and verify the information customers see.

Holiday hours work best when every changed date has a clear decision: the usual schedule, shorter service, or a full-day closure. Record those decisions before updating your ordering app and public listings. Then check that the saved dates and customer-facing information agree.

In OmNom, a specific date can use normal hours, custom hours, or a closed-all-day setting. That date’s override takes precedence over the normal schedule. You can plan these dated exceptions while keeping an otherwise correct weekly schedule.

Start with a date-by-date plan

Write down each affected date, the restaurant location, and the hours you intend to offer. Include the day before the holiday and the first day back if either will differ from the usual schedule. “Holiday weekend” is too vague when one day has lunch service and the next is fully closed.

Agree on the plan with the person responsible for service. Record:

  • The full calendar date, including the year
  • The location name and address
  • Normal hours, custom opening and closing times, or closed all day
  • The next planned opening date and time
  • Who will check the saved settings and public information

Use the restaurant’s local time when recording and entering hours. OmNom’s opening-hours guidance specifies the restaurant’s local time zone for its ordering schedule. This matters when managing restaurants from another time zone.

Apply the exception to the correct restaurant

Before editing, check the selected restaurant. For businesses with multiple locations, OmNom documents Switch Account in Settings as the place to select a restaurant. Review each location separately. See managing multiple locations.

For each affected date, choose the applicable option in the owner app:

  • Normal hours when the regular schedule is the intended plan
  • Custom hours when that date needs different opening and closing times
  • Closed all day when there will be no service that day

The holiday-hours FAQ confirms these options and the priority of the dated override. After making a change, review the saved date and setting. Check the year and adjacent dates carefully.

Use the right route for an AI request

The signed-in restaurant assistant can create a full-day closure for an exact date. A specific request might be: “Close this restaurant all day on December 25, 2026.” Check the selected restaurant before asking and review the resulting setting afterward.

Custom holiday opening and closing times need the hours screen. Use that screen when the plan is shortened service rather than a whole-day closure. The public onboarding chat can explain the process but cannot change your restaurant. The restaurant assistant guidance also notes that broad or ambiguous changes prompt clarification or confirmation.

Avoid compressing several decisions into “close for the holidays.” State individual dates and resolve any unclear reopening plan before entering it.

Keep Google and your own notices consistent

Review the places customers use to decide whether to visit: your Google Business Profile, website, ordering page, and any holiday notice you have posted. Check each one rather than assuming an OmNom edit updates another service.

Keep service labels clear: dining-room and online-ordering hours can differ. Google’s restaurant listing guidelines say restaurants should normally list the hours when customers can dine in.

Google’s special-hours instructions support date-specific hours without changing the regular schedule. In your Business Profile, open Edit profile, then Hours, and edit Special hours. Select a date, enter the hours or mark it closed, and save. Google recommends confirming official holiday hours even when they are unchanged.

Google describes special hours as suitable for adjusted hours or closures of up to six consecutive days. For a closure lasting seven or more days, or an unknown duration, its guidance is to mark the business temporarily closed. Those are Google’s listing rules; consult the relevant service’s own controls when updating other channels.

In written notices, include the date, location, and reopening time. “Closed Friday, December 25; reopening Saturday, December 26 at 11 a.m.” is easier to act on than “Closed for Christmas,” provided those are your confirmed plans.

A hypothetical holiday-hours walkthrough

The following café and schedule are illustrative, not a report about an OmNom customer. Suppose a café normally opens from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. and plans these exceptions in December 2026:

  • Thursday, December 24: open 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
  • Friday, December 25: closed all day
  • Saturday, December 26: return to the usual 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. schedule

The owner first selects the café and checks its local time zone. They use the hours screen to enter custom hours for December 24, then set December 25 to closed all day. Alternatively, they can request that exact full-day closure through the signed-in assistant.

Next, they review December 26 and confirm that no conflicting exception remains. They check the saved settings for all three dates, update the café’s Google special hours, and publish a matching notice on its website. A staff member compares those details with the agreed service plan.

Check the complete holiday period, including shortened service and reopening.

Recheck when the plan changes

If staffing or service plans change, revisit the affected dates and every notice you updated. Tell the team which version is current. After the holiday, check that the restaurant’s schedule and public information match the return to regular service, and remove any outdated temporary notice.

If an OmNom setting is unclear or the saved result does not match your plan, contact OmNom support with the restaurant, exact date, intended hours, and what you see. OmNom does not promise a support response time, so resolve uncertainties before the holiday where possible.

Customers should be able to tell which location is open, on which dates, and when you will be back.
