Food Truck Pickup Location Changes: A Daily Online Ordering Checklist

OmNom restaurant resources

A practical opening-to-closing checklist for food trucks that change stops, including location confirmation, customer directions, and existing pickup orders.

A food truck's online ordering page needs to answer two questions before a guest pays: where should I go, and when can I collect my food? Yesterday's brewery address can look perfectly reasonable even when today's service is across town. Make location review part of opening the truck, with one person responsible for confirming the address and checking what customers see.

The checklist below combines general operating advice with OmNom's daily pickup-location workflow. That feature depends on rollout availability; check your account before planning a service around it.

1. Prepare one clear location message

Before each service, write down the date, venue, street address, pickup window, and a short arrival note. Give staff the same version so a social post, a phone answer, and the ordering page describe the same stop.

A useful arrival note explains the final few steps. For example: “Orange truck beside the east patio. Collect online orders at the window facing the parking lot.” This is a sample instruction, not a real restaurant listing. Replace it with landmarks a first-time visitor can actually see.

Avoid “our usual spot” or a venue name by itself. Check which entrance guests can use and whether the pickup window is separate from the walk-up queue. Keep today's details somewhere the opening shift can review without searching old messages.

2. Match the hours to the service you can fulfill

Set ordering hours for the restaurant's local time zone. Build the schedule around when you can hand over food, allowing your team time to set up and pack down.

OmNom's onboarding currently supports one opening and closing interval per day. If your truck has a lunch stop, a travel break, and a dinner stop, don't assume onboarding can represent two separate intervals. Review the available hours controls and your plan for stopping orders during the move. See the opening-hours FAQ.

For a one-off event or day off, OmNom offers a dated override using normal hours, custom hours, or a full-day closure. The dated setting takes precedence over the regular schedule. Enter specific event times in the hours screen, then check the date carefully. The holiday-hours FAQ explains those choices.

3. Confirm today's pickup address before opening

Where daily pickup location is available, a moving truck can enable it during onboarding or in Settings. Open OmNom at the truck and check Orders. The location check-in starts two hours before the next opening by default; Settings > Food truck & daily location offers 30 minutes, 1 hour, or 2 hours.

Review the GPS result or enter the address manually. Compare the displayed address with the venue's actual customer entrance, add the pickup note, and tap “Confirm today's location.” Opening the review screen alone does not publish a location. Use manual entry if the suggested address doesn't identify your stop accurately.

With this workflow enabled, the menu remains visible while ordering waits for location confirmation. Unfinished orders remain accessible alongside a check-in banner. Customers get a “Find us today” section with the address, pickup note, and directions. Confirmation does not change the legal or business address. These behaviors are described in the food-truck FAQ.

4. Check the customer view before sharing the link

Treat confirmation and verification as separate opening tasks. Once you've confirmed the stop, open your customer ordering page on a phone and read it as someone visiting for the first time.

  • Does the address match today's venue rather than the previous stop?
  • Does the pickup note identify the correct window or entrance?
  • Do the directions lead to the intended location?
  • Does the ordering availability fit today's service hours?

This is an operating recommendation. Don't assume changing an OmNom setting also updates a social post, an event listing, or someone else's website. Review the channels where you announced this service and correct conflicting details.

Ask another staff member to read the note if the site has multiple entrances. A map can lead to the right property while still leaving a guest unsure where to collect their order.

5. Handle a mid-service move as an order handoff

Changing a public pickup location needs extra care after orders have been placed. In OmNom, existing orders keep their original pickup directions. A new confirmation should never be treated as proof that every waiting customer now has a different collection address.

As a general operating practice, review all unfinished orders before moving. Identify which customers are still due at the first stop, decide how those orders will be fulfilled, and communicate any necessary change directly. Don't rely on an updated menu page to reach someone already travelling.

For example, if a venue asks you to move from the front lot to the rear lot, check pending pickups before publishing the correction. Give staff one consistent instruction for directing those guests. For a move across town, resolve outstanding pickups and stop accepting orders you cannot fulfill during travel.

6. Include closing and the next service in the checklist

OmNom's confirmed location lasts until the service closes, including overnight service. It does not expire simply because midnight passes. For a service running past midnight, review the full opening-to-closing window rather than treating the date change as a new stop.

Before leaving, check unfinished orders and tomorrow's schedule. If the next service changes, update its hours and prepare its arrival note. Keep one named person responsible for the next location check.

Start with the current food-truck setup guidance, then review your settings in the OmNom owner app. If the daily-location controls aren't available, contact support before relying on that workflow for a moving service.
