OmNom Referral Partner vs Affiliate: Who Can Do What?

OmNom restaurant resources

Learn what an OmNom Referral Partner can prepare, what stays with the owner, and how to hand over a restaurant draft without sharing account access.

An OmNom Referral Partner can introduce a restaurant and, with the owner's permission, prepare an unclaimed draft. That referral does not provide owner or payment access. An affiliate is a separate OmNom role with assigned operational permissions. The distinction matters whenever someone offers to “handle setup” for a restaurant.

For a restaurant owner, the practical question is what you are allowing someone to do. For a Referral Partner, it is where your help ends and the owner's secure setup begins. This guide explains both sides, with a checklist for handing over a pickup-ordering setup cleanly.

Referral Partner vs affiliate: start with the actual role

OmNom's current account-access guidance separates Referral Partners from affiliates. Do not use the labels interchangeably when explaining your relationship to a restaurant.

A Referral Partner can help prepare non-sensitive information, such as the restaurant name, location, menu and hours, with permission. Before the restaurant is claimed, the partner can edit the prepared draft. The owner taking over that draft is an important boundary: after the claim, the partner can no longer edit it through the referral.

Affiliates have a separate role with assigned operational permissions. The public FAQ does not supply a universal list of those permissions. If a task needs operational access, check the specific assignment with OmNom rather than assuming that a referral, an agency relationship or a job at the restaurant supplies it.

The same person might describe themselves as a marketer, consultant or restaurant employee. Those descriptions do not tell the owner which account permissions they have. Start the conversation with the exact task: preparing a menu draft, explaining an invitation, or asking who can change something after the owner claims it.

What a Referral Partner can prepare

OmNom offers quick and assisted referral paths. Quick referral starts with a restaurant contact number and produces a personal link for you to share. Assisted referral lets you help prepare restaurant details, hours and menu photos with permission. Choosing the assisted path does not automatically increase the reward schedule.

Before creating a draft, ask the owner whether they want that help and which information they want you to use. Permission is required even when a menu or opening hours are already public.

For a useful preparation session:

  • Confirm the restaurant's contact number with the owner
  • Use the current menu the owner has approved for preparation
  • Check that item names, prices and options are readable
  • Confirm the hours rather than copying an old listing without checking
  • Leave uncertain details for the owner to review instead of guessing

These are preparation tasks. A menu upload does not make the restaurant live. The verified owner still needs to claim the restaurant, review the prepared menu and complete the required setup.

Think of a café with a recently changed sandwich price. A clear photo of last month's menu is still the wrong source. Asking one question before preparing the draft saves the owner from having to discover and correct that error later.

What stays with the owner

The authorized restaurant owner or representative completes the secure legal, identity and bank steps. A Referral Partner cannot complete those protected steps for them. Follow OmNom's payment-setup guidance when deciding who should do the next part.

The owner should use an email they control and can reliably access. Their sign-in email is separate from the restaurant's public contact information. Helping with a restaurant's menu does not require receiving its sign-in code.

Keep passwords, sign-in codes, bank details and identity documents out of chats and handoff notes. The person completing verification should enter sensitive information in the appropriate secure form. If they need help understanding a field, discuss the question without collecting its sensitive answer.

Also avoid promising an activation time. Ordering depends on required payment, restaurant, menu and applicable device checks. Some setup paths activate automatically once the requirements are satisfied. The owner should use the status shown in the app rather than assume there will always be a separate final launch button.

A five-step owner handoff checklist

Use this checklist when the prepared details are ready. It is a suggested working checklist, not an additional OmNom approval process.

  1. Summarize what you prepared. Name the menu version, hours and restaurant details used. Point out any questions you left for review
2. Share your personal invitation yourself. Use the app's sharing options from your own device and messaging account. Creating the referral does not send the invitation automatically
  3. Ask the owner to check the draft. In particular, review menu names, prices and options before those details are used for customer orders
  4. Leave protected setup with the authorized person. Give them time to complete their own legal, identity and payment requirements without sending you credentials or documents
  5. Agree how to raise corrections. Once claimed, the owner controls setup. If you notice a mistake afterward, explain the correction to the owner rather than expecting to keep editing the referral draft

For example, a partner might notice that a pickup menu still lists a discontinued side after the owner claims the restaurant. The useful handoff is a clear note naming the item and the correction the owner should review. Asking for the owner's sign-in code creates an unnecessary access problem.

What changes after the restaurant is claimed?

OmNom allows a partner to edit or withdraw an unclaimed referral. Once the owner claims it, control passes to the owner and the partner's draft-editing ability ends. That change is expected.

You can still open the referral in your app to check its current status and earnings. Creating a draft or sharing a link does not start rewards; the restaurant must go live and receive eligible orders. Ongoing promotion or training is not a required amount of work for earning rewards under the program. Helping afterward can be useful, but referral participation does not make you responsible for running the restaurant's account.

If an invitation fails, a restaurant appears duplicated or attribution looks wrong, contact OmNom support. Do not create another restaurant or change its contact number to get around the issue. Support review does not guarantee referral credit.

Make the scope clear before you begin

Before offering assisted setup, be able to answer three questions: What did the owner permit you to prepare? Which details still need their review? Which next steps require the authorized owner or representative?

Clear answers make the referral easier to evaluate and the handoff easier to finish. Review the Referral Partner program and its current terms, then choose the level of help that fits the owner's needs. For reward mechanics, see the restaurant referral rewards guide.
